Bo Algers is a veterinarian and professor in animal environment and health at the Department of Animal Environment and Health, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences; he is sharing his time between administration, teaching and research as well as information dissemination.
He devotes most of his teaching time to the veterinary students and post graduate research students but he also lectures in other courses e.g. for animal science students. In his research, which he conducts together with his PhD students as well as other research colleagues, he nowadays engages most in questions such as maternal behaviour in sows, sustainable food production systems, (synthesis research), ethics in animal husbandry, transport and handling of animals at slaughter.
He is a member of the Swedish Animal Welfare Agency's Animal Welfare Committee and the SLU faculty appointment board. He is also a member of the European Food Safety Authority expert panel on Animal Health and Animal Welfare.
